Porsche 918 Spyder

Aktualisiert: 13. Okt. 2020

The Porsche 918 Spyder! An absolute masterpiece in racecar engineering!

It’s incredibly fast with an Nürburgring (Nordschleife) lap time of 7:13.00 min! This racecar plays in the same league, as the McLaren 720S (7:08.34 min), the McLaren 600LT (07:08.82 min), the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 (07:13.90 min) and his trackday brother the Porsche 911 GT3 (07:12.70 min). Not bad! An absolutely brilliant performance! And additional to that, after your day out on the track, you can drive around the city with this car completely emissions free (and with the top open 😉)!

And heres’s the secret for it:

The Porsche 918 Spyder harbors a 138kg battery in it, two electric motors together with the control electronics (CPU) and the complex wiring. One of the electric power suppliers, is located at the front axle of the 918 Spyder and produces 129 hp. This motor is water cooled and able to rev up to 16.000 rpm!

And in the back sits the second E-machine, squished inbetween V8 Engine and the seven speed double clutch transmission, producing 156 hp.

Together it adds up to 285 hp and almost 600 Nm of torque, just from the two e motors!

Love it!

And then there is the main power supplier:

An 8 cylinder 4.6l V engine, producing 608 hp @ 8700 rpm! You read right, 8 thousand 7 hundred rpm! Woooooowww that’s a lot of power! And a lot of torque as well: 540 Nm @ 6700 rpm! Amazing!

And paired with the two E's, standing for Efficiency and Evolve, if you will, then you get a system performance of 887 hp (652 kW) and system torque of 1280 Nm!

Enough? To determine and decide, if the 918 spyder is able to bring down the overwhelming power to the ground, we have to analyze track data: Let’s have a look!

Nürburgring (Nordschleife)07:13.00 – On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, everything from 07:00.00 – 07:30.00 min is very fast. Only a few cars are able to make it under 07:00.00 min!

The sprint from 0-100 kph is done in 2.6s! And from 0-200 kph, the 918 Spyder takes less time, than a Subaru BRZ 2.0 Sport from 0-100 kph (7.9s): 7.4s for the Porsche!

Impressive! Isn’t it!

Possible, thanks to the two E motors, generating 0 torque gap and supported acceleration!

Now we have seen, this car is a sports car through and through. But we haven’t told you yet, about the economical worth of the 918 Spyder:

This car is able to run about 30km only with electricity. That should be more than enough for your daily purchases in the city.

Also the combustion engine only swallows in average under 12l of superplus, which is not bad at all for a car with over 800 hp and over unambiguously 1000 Nm of torque!

Porsche numbers the fuel consumption at in average 3.1 l/100km (NEFZ consumption). Depends on how gentle you are with the gas pedal (your foot has to be set on „really really gentle“ 😂).

So our final verdict: This car definitely earns the tag supersport car! And the Porsche 918 Spyder shows us once more, how much benefits for the environment and the performance you can get from the power of the future: The E will be written big!
