Just breathtaking! Isn't it! If you knew what's inside this DTM-looking car, you would be extremely surprised!
No, it's not a V8 or V6 twinturbo. Under the bonet... i mean trunk of course, there sits a 1.5l three-cylinder ottomotor, which produces incredible 231hp and 320Nm of torque! From a 1.5l displaced three-cylinder! Insane right?!
The current leader in producing three-cylinder engines is ford with his 1.5l three-cylinder ecoboost, producing 200hp on the top model Ford Fiesta ST. A great car!
But this engine takes downsizing to a whole new level! There are 31 additional horses driving this supercar. And all these horses don't even have to pull that much weight: Just 1560kg.
But don't worry. There is still a bit more to say about it 😋
The internal combustion engine (ice) is just driving the rear wheels. In the front, there is an electric motor producing an additional 131hp and 250Nm of torque. The emotor is powering the front wheels and supporting the 1.5l internal combustion engine. Together they produce a system performance of 362hp and 570Nm of torque!
With this amount of power and all four wheels driven, the i8 sprints from 0-100 kph in just 4.4s! And don't forget, this car consumes just 2.1l petrol on 100km!
The battery capacity 5.2kWh. That's not much, but the battery can be recharged while driving on the three cylinders. And when you arrive at home, you can easily plug-in your car to recharge the battery. A full-recharge will take about 2.5h.
To sum up: Plug-in Hybrids can be fun! And are still very healthy on the environment.
